The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released guidance to the public and private sector encouraging them to adopt the NIMS Incident Command System (NIMS-ICS). While the private sector has always been encouraged to participate, this announcement is indicative of the government's strategy to formalize the private sector's role as a buffer to local resources during an incident.
Effective and consistent integration of the NIMS across federal, state, territorial, tribal, and local governments; and the private sector will result in a strengthened national capability to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from any type of incident.
Training in the NIMS and ICS structure can be found by taking the following online courses. Training is free to the public, and you will receive a certificate of completion showing your qualifications and compliance.
