The City of Paris Fire Department will begin conducting fire hydrant flow tests and maintenance on Monday, May 4, 2009. All 1,164 hydrants in the city will be tested and the process will take approximately eight weeks to complete, weather permitting. Testing of hydrants insures proper water volume and pressure, maintenance of the hydrants, and water main stability. Hydrants must be visible, properly working, and color coded correctly in order for the Fire Department to obtain maximum benefit from them.
During testing water may become discolored by the higher volume of water stirring sediment in the mains. Although discolored, the water is still safe to consume but customers are advised to wait for discoloration to clear before washing clothes. After testing is completed in your area the water will clear in a matter of hours. The City’s CodeRED telephone notification system will be used to notify affected areas the day hydrant tests are scheduled.
Residents are encouraged to please contact Vance Woodard, Training Officer, at (903) 784-9222 or vwoodard@paristexas.gov if they have any questions.
