Paris, TEXAS (July 12, 2010) -Paris Public Library is pleased to announce the addition of downloadable audio books to their growing list of electronic services. NetLibrary, a part of EBSCO Publishing, offers eAudiobooks that are compatible with most all MP3 players including iPods, iPhones, and many other portable devices. There are over 2,000 unabridged titles in the collection, including contemporary and classic fiction, children's literature, mysteries, science fiction, history, biographies, many of them award winning titles.
"Our library users have been asking about a service like this, and we are happy to be able to meet that need through NetLibrary. If you have a computer and Internet access then you can download digital audio books from wherever you are and if you do not have Internet access at home or work you can use the public computers at the Library," said Priscilla McAnally, Library Director.
NetLibrary's collection of eBooks has been available for some time to patrons for downloading and reading on a computer through the TexShare databases provided by the Paris Public Library in partnership with the Texas State Library. The addition of digital eAudiobooks adds another aspect to the already valuable resource.
Paris City Manager Kevin Carruth said, "The Library has made a concerted effort to increase
its collection by providing electronic services not only because there are physical space limitations
with the building but the electronic services allow us to provide more titles, quicker, cheaper, andin
wider genres. It is pretty amazing all that is available, especially when you realize that the Paris Public
Library offers many more titles than the largest estimates of what was in the famed ancient Library of
Alexandria. "
Paris Public Library card holders can create a NetLibrary account by coming into the library
and accessing the site on one of the library's computers. After they have created an account they can then login from anywhere they have a computer and Internet. The website can be accessed through the City of Paris website at www.paristexas.gov. Once at the City's homepage, patrons select "Library" from the department list, then "e-Resources" and find "NetLibrary" in the table. The audio file can be downloaded to a computer and then transferred to a portable device. The eAudiobooks are good for three weeks and patrons can check out up to ten books at anyone time.
