[ARCHIVED] New Radar Trailer to hit the Streets

Radar Trailer

The Paris Police Department announced today the acquisition of a vehicle speed monitoring or ‘radar’ trailer. The trailer is equipped with a traffic radar device which displays the vehicles speed in a large LED read out. If a vehicle is traveling in excess of the posted speed limit, the display and a yellow warning light alternately flash to let the driver know of the violation. “We always look for voluntary compliance of traffic laws by the drivers in our community. This radar trailer will allow drivers to be more aware of their speed and adjust accordingly” Paris Police Chief Bob Hundley stated. “Officers work school zones every day but sometimes get called away for police service calls. This trailer will assist drivers to know what their speed is and slow down. We are not depending on the trailer to curtail enforcement of speed laws, only as an assist to let drivers know exactly what their speed is.”

The trailer is powered by battery with a large solar panel. Another feature of the unit is a data collector which will record number of radar checks, along with the speed of those vehicles. This information can be used for decisions of where enforcement needs to concentrate.

“There is no doubt that speed is an issue in traffic collisions. The greater the speed, the more likely injuries will occur and nowhere is that more true than in school zones. People can expect to see this unit as it rotates through the various school zones in the city,” stated Hundley.
