Employment - Civil Service
The Paris Fire Department operates under the auspices of Government Code Chapter 143, commonly referred to as Civil Service. The City of Paris is an equal opportunity employer and strives to maintain a fire department that is consistent with the diversity of the community.
Under Civil Service, a written examination is given to potential firefighter applicants. Applicants must pass the written examination with a score of 70% or better for inclusion on the eligibility list.
Veterans of the US armed services are given five additional points to their passing score with submission of the form DD-214 showing an honorable discharge with at least 180 days of service not including training.
Any eligibility list created by an examination will be in effect for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of the examination, unless the list is exhausted prior to that time.
